Very Fine English Hammer Gun
A fine traditionally built and finished English Hammer Gun by The Midland Gun Company. Manufactured in the finest traditions by the Birmingham based firm in a standard Game set up. 12 Bore side by side with 32″ choked barrels. Fine English walnut stock with strong figure and checkered wrist. Over all the Shotgun is 49.1/2″ in length. It is a non ejector with traditional hammers and double triggers.
Serial number; 102633 engraved into the rear trigger guard tang. Profusely engraved sidelocks with single poistion and a Pull of 15″ to the front trigger. Traditional English kick pad installed. Action also engraved in the same manner with single top lever to open. All furniture on the detachable checkered forend also engaved. Game set choking (will confirm which later)
The upper suface of the blued barrels are hand engraved; “MIDLAND GUN CO – FOR 3 PAPER CASES.” ” BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND” Two white aiming studs on the rib of the barrels. The upper of the central rib engarved transversley across the barrels to reduce glare. Barrels pass the ring test (i.e. rib jointing secure)
Matching serial number on all components, forend iron, action, barrels and tang , as detailed above. On dissassembly the faces are good and the action tight to test. The action is marked with Standard Birmingham viewing marks. Also; “SOLID BAR.” There is still colour on the flats of the action.
The flats of the barrels are thus marked (both are the same): “12. crowns over, BV BP NP NITRO PROOF. 12 within a diamond 3″ CHOKE 1.1/2″ So we have 12 Bore. Birmingham Viewing and Proof marks and Nitro Proof. Plus 3″ chambers – that makes this a pretty handy shotgun in this day and age. Chambers have the mildest hint of disruption towards the unused end and the barrels are good with maybe a hint of plastic which could clean with the correct solvent.
This is chance to go back to traditional English Shotgun shooting with some feeling of pride in the gun you are carrying. A fine fully functional and collectible shotgun ready for use.
