 Schmidt-Rubin M1911 (K11) Straight-Pull CarbineDSC_0737

This example of the Model 1911 Carbine is one of the converted (as most were) Model 1889/96 rifles held in reserve or in service with second line troops.  This one however, has benefited from having its original stock ditched and a brand new item fitted.  It is a particularly fine solid European walnut example with good straight grain figure and colour.  The handguard is an exact match.  The stock has the “new” rounded comb and pistol grip as a single piece with the finger groves in the fore-end.  These finger groves are in the early position and are parallel to each other as opposed to the positioning on the later K31 model.  The butt-stock has the cut-out for the rear mounting bar which takes the rear end of the sling.  The forward mount for the same being side mounted on the barrel band.  The stock altogether is in fine condition with only one dent alongside the action.

The rifle is chambered in 7.5 Swiss and most of these modifications were the result of the development and introduction of the new GP11 smokeless ammunition.  This ammo burnt quicker hence the shortening of the barrel which brought about the whole carbine redesign.  The carbine is 43.1/2″ in overall length. The round barrel is 23″ long with a dished crown.  Trigger Pull is 12.1/2″.  The rifle has retained the classic Schmidt-Rubin straight pull action with the red cycling lever to the RHS and bolt release under the same.  The detachable box magazine retains the serial number which matches on the underside and is removed by the catch to its right.  The magazine will hold six rounds. Front sight post guarded by protective “ears” and adjustable for zeroing, it also carries the last three digits of the matching serial number..

The bore is in fair condition with minor pitting top the lower right quadrant of the barrel as looked through from the action end.  It has good four-grove RH twist rifling.  The action is fine and mechanically perfect.  Other features include the front barrel band which also have the stacking hook and the bayonet lug on the underside of the barrel.  The serial number is marked on the RHS of the receiver and reads as follows:- “153181”. This number falls into a category which could mean that the weapon was actually built from scratch as a carbine and not in-fact converted from an older weapon.  The year of manufacture was 1927 according to records.  Under this number is a single “P” struck in at a later date.  The “P” means that the rifle was sold to the Trooper that used it during his service.  The bolt carries the matching number and the simple Swiss cross stamp as do many other parts over the rifle.  The original Swiss proof and inspectors mark along with acceptance marks are on the receiver bridge. The sliding rear sights are graduated from 300 to 1500 meters with a clear open “U” rear notch.  Accurate, smooth, fast and light about sums it up.  And, very enjoyable to shoot, handsome looking and will fit most military rifle shooters needs.  Includes leather strap with illegible makers stamp on underside towards front fixing.
