A fine Schmidt-Rubin K31
The Classic sought after Swiss M1931 Karbiner chambered in 7.5 x 55mm Swiss with a detachable six-shot box magazine. Serial number “893149” is matching on all parts. Superb, short straight-pull action with silver-grey bolt handle. Fully stocked in dark European beech – a hardwood. It is interesting to note that the finger groves in the fore end are actually staggered in that one is forward of the other. Steel contoured butt-plate (troopers tag A/F) Fitted with side mountings for leather sling.
The serial number 893149 is marked on the LHS action sidewall. It also on the top radius of the bright finished bolt shroud and other places. Close inspection of the rear of the bolt reveals a date of manufacture of 1943. The last three digits of the serial number are repeated on the barrel indicating that this rifle has been in one piece since its original build. There are also factory inspectors marks and the entwinned “PB” mark on the barrel shank. The rear sights are graduated from 100 to 1500 meters. Guarded adjustable ( for windage ) front sight and front stacking hook with bayonet mount under. There is a bolt release catch on the rear RHS of the action and magazine release is on the RHS of the magazine box.
The rifle measures 43.1/2″ in length. The round barrel is approximately 645mmlong and the trigger pull is 12.3/4″ to center. The bore is clean with good right-hand twist 4 grove rifling. The striking thing about this rifle is its condition. It shows the correct amount of wear on the metal components but the finish is still strong especially around the area of the receiver. The stock is in excellent condition and is unusual in that it is stained beech, with a high degree of polished finish. There are minor dings and dents but none that detract from the overall feel of a quality rifle in good order. As is normal with all guns that come into Sword & Musket, they are stripped and originality checked etc; on inspection of the wood work correct original stamped numbers were found within.
This rifle is offered with an aftermarket non-gunsmithing scope mount which seems quite good. Very simply the mount is fixed by a clamping lug, tightened by an Allen screw and rests on the RHS of the action. The scope is mounted in a slightly off-set position. At present it contains a basic BSA built modern fixed magnification scope with a mil-dot reticule. As far as zeroing goes it is as of this moment untested. Optics are good. The arrangement seems very sturdy and is offered with the rifle. Also with this rifle are five cardboard and tin stripper clips and an original leather sling which is in fine order. 80 once used cartridges available.
