Swedish Mauser 96/38 Bolt Action Rifle

Serial Number 34254,  23.1/2″ round blued barrel. Swedish 6.5mm caliber.

The receiver is marked “WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N/1899” The left receiver wall is marked “G.F.   34254” All other components have matching numbers except for the front sling swivel band. The rifle has a “bright” cleaning rod. The bolt is also finished correctly in the bright as is the magazine platform.

The walnut stock is excellent and only has a few minor dings or scratches which are hardly noticeable. The blueing is of high quality with only the smallest losses or scratches. There is no visible pitting or corrosion. The barrel and rear of the action around the charger guide have that two-tone plumb/blue tint that creeps into quality finishing from that part of the world.

Sights are graduated up to 2000 meters and have the after market fine adjustment unit added. The external floor plate seems to have the first digit over stamped from 3 to 2. The rear of the safety catch is also over stamped.

The bore is very good and the action smooth. There is a brass disk in the side of the butt and the rifle comes with its leather sling. The quality that was built into these rifles has sustained them well over the years, leaving us something, even this long after its production, that will be a pleasure to own and shoot.
