Mauser Built M96/38 Swedish Carbine….SOLD
Created on November 30th 2011
An early German built Swedish Carbine in 6.5 x 55
Overall length 44″. Barrel 23.1/2″. Serial number 38339.
The breech clearly marked “WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER /OBERDORF A/N /1900.” The action side wall marked with inspectors initials “O.G” and serial number.
Straight handled bolt finished in the white with most components marked with “339” and polished bright. Flag safety on rear of bolt. Magazine platform also finished in the white with clear swedish crown inspectors mark in middle. The rest of the rifle is in a blued finish. The rifle looks to be exhibiting much original finish with only high edge wear and thinning of the finish as signs of its age.
The stock is the early finger groove type made in French Walnut showing strong signs of use, but not abuse. There is a single swedish inspectors crown stamped into the underside of the stock, just behind the trigger guard. The single barrel band is numbered to another gun, as is the cleaning rod.
The rifle benefits from being fitted with the early type Vasteras micrometer rear sights which offer a far more accurate group of settings for elevation. Steel butt plate numbered to gun – devoid of any finish. The RHS of the stock bears the brass circular bore condition disc which is clearly legible.
This is a nice clean very early carbine, probably altered officially by the army. The bore is excellent as is the action, mechanically fine.
