Created on June 30th 2015
The classic Model 1896 Swedish Long Rifle
Serial number 472819. Chambered in 6.5 x 55mm. Five shot internal magazine. Straight arm bolt action Mauser with flag safety. 49.5/8″ in overall length to threaded muzzle. Round blued barrel 29″. Stocked in European Beech with hand-guard.
The receiver ring marked with the “Swedish Crown /Carl Gustafs CG ” monogram. Beneath it reads “CARL GUSTAFS STADS / GEVARSFAKTORI / 1919.” The receiver being nicely finished in a mat black with no visible wear. The receiver side wall marked with; “H.K 472819” H.K. are the initials of the chief officer inspector at the factory at the time of production. They belonged to Helge Koltohoff who held the post from 1912 until 1923. In striking contrast to the receiver the bolt assembly is finished in the white and polished. All the bolt components match the rifle carrying the last three digits of the serial number. For help with grip in cold conditions the flag safety and the cocking piece have a strong rectangular cross hatching in the relevant positions. The bolt has a straight handle and cocks on closing. There are also several clear Swedish Crown marks on the separate components. The magazine follower is also finished as the bolt is – in the white. The only other component on the rifle finished in the white other than those mentioned above is the cleaning rod.
All other components are blued. The barrel band springs under the stock actually have a strong and pleasing nitra-blue finish. The rifle is equipped with a screw threaded barrel and well blued. The stock fittings are blacked , some have mixed numbers and the magazine floor plate has been re-blued. The beech stock has a chip missing behind the middle barrel band. This could be repaired upon request. The but plate is plain steel. The action is superb to operate, very smooth. The bore is excellent, as it should be for one of these.
There is the round brass disk set into the side of the butt-stock with bore condition markings, clear to examine. This would have been when the rifle was last into the armorer for overhaul.
A very shoot-able example of one of these highly accurate rifles.
