Steyr M95 Carbine ………….SOLD

Created on November 1st 2012

An M95 Steyr Carbine in its original caliber of 8 x 50R

This is the short rifle or Stutzen version of the M95 Carbine with the bayonet lug, so this is not the cavalry carbine as the picture (above) would suggest.  This carbine remains in its original 8 x 50 R caliber and has escaped conversion to later calibers.

The breech is marked “BUDAPEST” over “M95.”  On the side of the breech is the serial number 7369N.

The M95 is equipped with an internal magazine which takes 5 shells in a loading clip, which drops out of the opening underneath the action as the last round is loaded – when the clip is empty.  The weapon is 39.1/2″ in overall length.  The round barrel is 19.1/2″ long.  It has an ingenious straight pull bolt system with a straight bolt handle.  There is a safety which engages with the back of the bolt when the bolt is cocked, or when closed down to lock the bolt in position.

There are four mounting points for the sling, two for side mounting and two for an under-slung sling.  This M95 carbine has a simple rear sighting system with a small ladder sight which either lays flat or can be used in the upright position and is graduated to 2400.  There is the usual stacking rod mounted on the nose cap.

The carbine has an good strong bore, the action works well and there is a very satisfying feeling to operating of this type of weapon.  Over all the blueing has turned to a mellow plumb-brown the stock is smooth but has definitely lost its sharp edges.  It has finger grooves in the fore-end and a number not related to the action on the side of the butt – “30251”
