Extraordinary P53 Rifle with Browned Barrel
A superbly presented modern copy of the famous Three Band P 53 Enfield. Produced by Parker-Hale on the same machinery and tooling used to produce the original muskets back in the day. You couldn’t get a closer copy of a weapon than this! Percussion ignition with a .577 three grove rifled bore. Overall the rifle is 55.1/4″ long. The round browned barrel is 39″ long with three black bands securing it to the stock. Trigger Pull to centre is a nominal 14″
The top of the barrel is clearly marked with the makers name;- ” PARKER-HALE LTD. BIRMINGHAM. ENGLAND” At the rear of the barrel above the Hut are the British Black Powder Proof marks. Standard ladder rear sights graduated to 1000 yards. The front sight has been replaced with a brass adjustable aiming post so elevation can be finely adjusted. The obvious change to the standard musket is that the black paint these muskets were originally sold in has been removed and the barrel has been refinished in a rich brown. This adds a whole difference to the aesthetic of the weapon, elevating it far above the norm’. Complimenting this fine finish are the case coloured lock plate and hammer. Both display a rich but not overpowering display of colour along with clear and sharp engraving.
One of the more obvious alterations that these muskets have is the royal cypher at the rear of the lock. It shows a super Royal Crown but underneath it are the letters “P-H” as opposed to the normal “V. R.” for Victoria. Forward of the hammer it as as the originals displaying quite clearly;- “1853 / ENFIELD” Engraved decoration on the hammer and cross hatching upon the thumb piece are clear and sharp. On the underside, at the front of the brass trigger guard is the rear sling swivel attachment with the correct chair and nipple protector, the leather plug is also in position.
In the place of the normal Enfield stock cartouche is the Parker-Hale Ltd roundel. Secured under the barrel is the correct full length loading and cleaning rod. The butt is finished of with a solid brass butt plate with long top tang. Front sling swivel is on front barrel band. The rifle carries the serial number discreetly on the LHS of the breech, outer which reads “1097”. Action fine, rifle tested and bore good.
