M 1891 Carcano Rifle
A clean example of the Model 1891 Infantry Rifle. Elegant to look at and simple to operate it benefits from a 6-shot fixed box magazine. Chambered in 6.5 x 52 cartridge. The rifle measures 46″ in overall length. The round blued barrel is 27.1/4″ long and has a 4-grove RH twist. The trigger pull is 13″ to centre. A very simple turn-bolt system with straight handle and simple flat plate safety catch. Twin locking lugs at front of bolt.
The rifle has the serial number marked on the LH side breech of the barrel; ” Z 434″ The crest of the same is marked with a boxed “crown/ FAT /42″ (Terni) and there are numerous Italian inspectors and acceptance marks of many parts of the rifle. Simple quadrant-type sight at rear graduated from 300 to 1000 meters. Short hand guard over barrel with an exposed section of barrel running 13.1/4” forward of that. The bolt is finished in the white and the balance of the rifle blued. The bluing has remained very strong over majority of the rifle.
The furniture includes a curved steel butt-plate and multiple sling attachment points, side and under. The steel nose cap takes a full length cleaning rod and incorporates a bayonet lug. Simple but sturdy fore-sight. Smooth trigger within trigger guard which makes up part of the magazine. Deep rifling, bore strong. Condition of the rifle is generally very good. The straight grip beech stock is in good condition with an all over gold/tan colour with no splits or shakes and minimal dents or scratching. It is pleasing to note that the stock carries the same serial number as the rifle – these are often mixed up!
