8 x 56Rmm Straight pull Austrian Service Rifle from World War 1
Overall length 50″, Barrel length 30″, weight 8.31lbs. Serial number 14530.
5 round internal magazine, only works with ammunition clip which is dropped when used, through the open base of the magazine housing. Straight pull action with rotating bolt head and twin locking lugs, The bolt is electro-pencil serial number marked and has a straight bolt handle.
Both the action and the barrel have the serial number clearly stamped on the side. The barrel is clearly marked with a 12mm high letter “S” which means Spitzgeschoss ( a pointed bullet with a large case ) This was a conversion carried out in the 1930s and the “S” was placed on the rifles to distinguish between this type and the unconverted type.
The breech is clearly marked “STYER over M95″. The ladder type rear sight is graduated to 2600 meters – a hint of the power of the cartridge; 2300 f.p.s. the most powerful of this group of Styer rifles. Full length walnut stock with hand guard and finger grooves, in fine condition and numbered to the rifle on the RHS of the butt. Two steel sling swivels and flat steel butt plate. Nose cap and bayonet fitting – matching numbers -with stacking hook.
Mechanically fine, with a good bore. Cosmetically in very good condition with most armoury blueing remaining.
