M95/30 Mannlicher Steyr Carbine……(F 1078) SOLD

Artillery or Train Corps M95/30 Carbine

A very clean example of the Austro-Hungarian straight pull Carbine with a bayonet lug on the underside of the front band. The Cavalry Carbine did not have a bayonet fitting as superfluous to requirements.  This example was built at the main Austrian weapons plant, Steyr.  It carries the serial number “3249” on the receiver ring.  The barrel at the breech.  The round bolt handle.  The front barrel band and the stock – a truly matching example.

Re-chambered in the 1930’s in the Austrian 8mm x 56R, it has a five round clip fed internal magazine arrangement.  The clip which loads with the rounds is expelled when finished with, through the open base of the magazine.  Overall the carbine measures 39.1/2″ in length.  The round blued barrel is a nominal 19.1/2″ long and the trigger Pull is 13.3/8″ to centre.  Modern German proofed.

This M95 is stocked in European Elm which is a very sturdy timber but also has some weight about it.  Finger groves in fore-end with a hand guard over the barrel.  Elm being virtually indestructible, this stock has virtually no unwanted marks on it, despite its service life. The obverse to the serial number shows a rack number (possibly) of “460”.  Flat steel butt-plate.  Instantly recognisable magazine merged with trigger guard and side mounted sling attachments with a canvass and leather sling.  The ingenious straight pull bolt with internal cam system has horizontal locking lugs which rotate to vertical in the receiver when pushed into battery.  Also, at the rear of the same is a safety catch and knurled cocking piece.  The letter “K” is stamped on many of those parts.

All the metalwork is finished in a strong military blue with very little wear.  The exception being the bolt – finished in the white.  The receiver ring is marked;  “STEYR / M.95” A barrel registration mark at the crest is undisturbed.  The LHS of the same has the serial number on both the barrel and receiver “3249”  and a large “S” on the curve of the knox form.  Carbine sights graduated from 600 to 2200 meters.  The front sight is an up-turned “V” within a dovetail slide for zeroing.  Front barrel band also has a stacking bar mounted on the LHS.  Very good bore with strong rifling and a high shine – no pitting or misting. Including 5 steel loading clips.
