M48 Yugoslavian Mauser………(f 836) Sold

Created on October 31st 2019

An above average example of the Yugo’ M48 Mauser

This rifle is almost identical to the Czeckoslavkian VZ24 Mauser and chambered in 7.92mm.  Made after WW II to equip the Yugoslavian Army.  Very similar to the K98 of world war two Germany with minor changes.  The most obvious being the full length handguard over the barrel.

Overall the rifle measures 42.7/8″  The round blued barrel is approximately 23″ long and the trigger pull is just over 13″ to centre.  Equipped with the Mauser bolt system and flag-safety to rear.  A nice aspect to this particular weapon is that is has been completely stocked in Elm – a very dense and heavy timber; this should soak up recoil very efficiently.  This solid stock has the Wehrmacht-type sling slot running vertically through the butt stock and a cupped steel butt-plate. All the stock fittings are the correct manufacture fittings, though the floorplate shows a different serial number.

The butt-stock also shows the eastern-block type numbering commonly used on Russian capture K’s; it reads “91933.”  This rifle has the serial number; “K97209” on the RHS of the receiver.  The rifle has an internal 5-shot staggered magazine which can be stripper-clip loaded from the guide on the rear action bridge front.  The standard cut-out in the action wall is present on the LHS, just in front of the bolt release catch.

The Yugoslavian crest is visible on the top of the receiver over “M48”.  The action and barrel is blued which remains strong.  The bolt is finished in the white with a curved down bolt handle.  The serial number is repeated on the topside of the curved bolt arm.  The magazine follower is also finished in the white but, they decided to remove the perpendicular upright which caused the bolt to stay open when the magazine was exhausted, so the rifle will cycle effectively even if out of ammuntion.  Many inspection marks on bolt components and stock fittings.

Hooded front sight with cleaning rod under – stored through bayonet lug.  Tangent rear sights graduated from  200 to 2000 meters.  Action mechanically fine, strong bore with some light wear in the throat.  A less expensive way to shoot a Mauser these days and a good starting point.  British proofed.
