A standard Model 1897 British Infantry Officers Sword.  The blade is 32″ long by 1″ at the ricasso. No makers name.  Florally engraved with the royal cypher of Edward VII on the other side in the same position is the correct coat of arms for the period.  At the ricasso is the Wilkinson style brass proof disc with the word “PROVED” embossed in to it, within the Star of David.  The blade has a wide single fuller for just under half of its length, is mainly single edged with a spear point to the end.  Generally the blade has a pleasing steel grey patina to it with mild small patches of pitting.  The engraving is however very good with a good depth to it and sharply defined edges to the designs.

Steel florally pierced guard with the Edward VII royal cypher.  Fish skin wire wrapped guard with some loose wire and small patches of wear to the skin.  Button topped plain steel pommel with cross hatched back-strap.  All secure – no rattling.  Leather covered field service scabbard to protect blade.  A good Army sword in condition comensorate with its age.
