Standard British M1897 Pattern Officers Sword with owners name.

Swords Nov 2014 030Swords Nov 2014 031Swords Nov 2014 032  Of standard military specifications for the time.  Straight spear pointed blade with single central fuller. Of 33″ in total length. The Blade is in generally good condition,  the patina is bright with faint engraving of floral patterns and George V cypher.  A clear brass disc proof mark within the Star of David design is set into the ricasso.   On the reverse side, if studied very closely the name “R.DICKENS” is visible.  Little pitting at all to the blade, just a tiny bit at the point.   The pierced floral guard in is fine bright condition but the final plating is absent.  Pierced for a knot and also clearly carrying the royal cypher of George V.  The grip is of grey-blue shargreen wrapped in three strands of wire and is fully intact.  Cross hatched back strap with steel pommel and round nut.  The sword is sound with no annoying rattling.  Field service leather covered brown scabbard with fraying to the drag area.  A good example of an M1897 in condition consumat for its age.
