British 19th Century Brass Hilted Hanger By Wooley Deakin & Co
A good solid (non-rattling) British Military Brass Hilted Hanger by Wooley Deakin & Co Manufacturers in London between 1805 and 1806 at 10 Bush Lane, Cannon Street.
Overall length 35″ with a curved blade length of approx 29″ The blade ends in a Hatchet point with a single narrow fuller which terminates approx’ 6″ from the point, it has a square back. The makers name “WOLLEY / DEAKIN CO” is marked on one side of the blade and on the reverse is the blade makers mark which is not possible to descipher and the broard arrow over “B O” this mark is a full 1/2″ from top to bottom inclusive. One of the shells is pierced near the edge.
The guard is of the flat shell type with round brass pommel with turned down quillion and wooden plain grip. The shell guards are marked “M = FLINT” and “II over 3” I am assuming this is the 3rd Flintshire Militia.
The whole sword is in good condition with light corrosion over the blade and some dinks in the fighting edge. The brass is generally mellow with no breakages and the wooden grip is in an old varnish finish. It is tight and does not rattle when shaken.
Reduced to £650.
