Early 1930’s Lionhead Sword – from the estate of General Paul Bader
Beautiful hand chased Lionhead pommel, has the “Ruby” glass eyes. Fancy wire bound black backerlite grip, minor signs of ageing. An early and extremely rare lionhead pattern sword by “Carl Eichorn” Company of Solingen. “P” style handguard has art deco style designs. The unusual langet has crossed cannon barrels with a single cannon ball between them. The 32″ curved blade is in mint condition. The ricasso is Hallmarked “Carl Eickhorn, Solingen”. the steel scabbard retains about 80% of its original black lacquer paint.
General Bader was born in1883, he served in WW1 as a Lieutenant in Field Artillery Regiment 66. General Bader comanded the 21st Army Mountain Corps in 1943. This was a large corps of experienced troops which Adolf Hitler put much trust in during 1943. In 1935 Hitler promoted Bader to General Major. By 1938 he became a Lieutenant General and General of Artillery on July 1st 1941. From 1941 to 1943 he fought continually in Serbia.
