Fine Sottish Field Officers Sword 1857 Pattern

Based on the Royal Engineers Sword of 1857, This type of sword features the steel acanthus-leafed scrolled decoration over the hilt, with buckskin liner – the blue silked edges have been removed. The guard still shows a good covering of its original nickel plating. Good fishskin grip with wire binding showning some areas where the fishskin is balding as a result on usage. White Leather knot.

The 32″ blade has narrow double fullers on both sides and is etched with floral  designs and markings. One side shows the makers name and address: “Leckie, Graham & co, Union Street Glasgow,”(at this address between 1879 and 1902) Scottish Thistle and V.R cypher and crown. The other face of blade has the proof mark – brass disc, and owners name: “W.A.Youden.” It also shows the Scottish Thistle,  crown, and Elephant battle honours.

The scabbard still retains some early nickle plating , has two suspesion rings, removable throat and a standard ball chape.

A Scottish sword in good condition for its age.
