1796 Cavalry Sword……SOLD

1796 type Light Cavalry Officers Sword.
Shallow fullered blade 30.1/2″ etched with 1801-16 arms, crowned GR cypher, trophy and floral devices, with traces of gilding. A brass stirrup hilt with langets, plain back-strap with pointed “ears” and pronounced forward sloping wire-bound fish-skin grip. In its leather scabbard complete, the brass locket and chape with simple cutout designs.
Condition:Good condition for its age, the blade has been cleaned and very little blue remains but gilt designs are still strong, – pitted. The scabbard is original but scuffed and chipped with dents to the drag. The stitching is intact. The fish-skin grip is complete and untouched but a little dirty in the low areas, the wire complete.
