Un-Issued British Enfield No 4 Mk II ………. (F 947) SOLD
Created on September 30th 2021
Superb condition Un-Issued No 4 Mk II
One of the last ever made in the UK at the Fazakerley plant and still chambered in .303 British. Serial Number A 11955 matching in all the relevant places. Stocked in Beech and finished black with brass butt plate. Unusual in that the rifle is equipped with a 5 groove bore. This is of course immaculate. This rifle has only been proofed recently in the UK. A hint to this is the amount of sticky Cosmoline still upon many of the parts including the bolt and in all the nooks and crannies.
The rifle carries few markings but chief among the visible ones is the main block on the outer wall of the action, which have been neatly electro-pencilled; “No4 Mk 2/ UF 55 A 11955” The serial number is repeated on the reverse of the bolt handle, the underside of the detachable box magazine and the underside of the for-end. The interchangeable bolt head is a No I fitting and the cocking piece rectangular. Safety to rear LHS of action, sprung bolt release catch on RHS. Standard Mk I rear sights with flip-up ladder graduated from 200 to 1300 yards. Front sight protected by steel ears. Muzzle incorporates bayonet fitting for the No 9 bowie blade bayonet (not pictured but available). Twin sling swivels. All immaculate and in perfect working order. Multiple markings on the woodwork, mainly on the underside.
This No 4 measures 44.1/4″ in overall length. The round barrel is a nominal 25″ in length and the Pull length is 13.3/8″ to centre. Many of the components carry the “F” for Fazakerley or an inspectors stamping incorporating the same, such as the “F53” on the underside of the cocking piece. There is no cosmetic wear to this No 4, It is Unused. There is no high edge wear to the black paint finish, no unpleasant scratches or dings, not even the kind a civilian might accidentally cause on a range day, let alone any signs of a life in the military. It would be the authors guess that this rifle was only recently removed from its storage wrapping for the first time since production. Equally absent are any serious dents or scratches to the surface of the wood. If there are any, they are purely minimal. Recently proofed in the UK (sent without its woodwork) This is one of the last – these rifles only come up occasionally on todays market – now is your chance to lay your hand s upon an “as issued” example to either shoot or just own and watch appreciate.
I can’t fault this rifle.
