British No5 Mk1 .303 Carbine
A genuine British Wartime No5 Jungle Carbine chambered in .303 caliber, Serial number P4017.
Built at Fazakerley, Lancashire England in July 1945. Overall length 39.5/8″ Barrel length 20.1/2″ Built to standard specification; the sidewall of the action marked and highlighted in original white paint “No5MK1ROF (F) / 7/45 P4017” ROF (F) refers to Royal Ordanance Factory (Fazakerley). The action is finished in the original black painted baked-on Enfiled black. Over the action is mounted the correct carbine sight (with battle sight when folded down) graduated to 800 yards.
The bolt handle has the drilled end (to reduce weight) and is marked on the rear of the arm with the matching serial number. The body and head of the bolt both bear one of the other Fazakerley marks the boxed “F Y”. The action has the tell-tale lightening cuts applied once again to reduce the carbines weight.
Rectangular ribbed cocking piece. Safety on side of action. Ten shot detachable magazine, under. Good dark walnut carbine woodwork and hand guard. The butt stock with the pressed steel butt-plate housing the rubber butt pad. The steel housing with the side mounting for the sling. Most components marked with war department acceptance stamps or Enfield inspectors marks. The exposed round blacked barrel is fitted with the classic carbine flash hider and bayonet fitting. The woodwork itself has not escaped without being applied with varrious small inspectors stamps and markings.
There are no splits or shakes in the woodwork, just the normal ammount of dents and dings which always seem to arrive on these weapons as a result of thier military service. The action is fine and the bore is strong with no pitting.
