Standard Military specification in .303 with a detachable Ten shot box magazine. Enfield bolt action with a No 3 bolt head and rectangular cocking piece. Fully stocked in walnut with a 4 piece stock. The serial number is 41L1927 and is marked on the LHS of the butt socket and the rear of the bolt handle. There is always an “L” within a Long Branch serial number. Solid bolt head as it should be for a number four. Standard military sights.
The outside LHS of the action wall is marked as follows;- “No4 Mk I* / LONG BRANCH / 1943” The date being the production date. Adjacent to those official marks is a number;- “166” in electro-pencil markings, by hand – meaning unknown. The safety catch is mounted on the same side at the rear of the action and is the forked-type shape mainly seen out of Long Branch. Standard semi-pistol grip stock with Canadian production and inspection marks under the wrist. Solis brass butt-plate with trap for cleaning bottle and pull-through ( unused and in position ) Clip loading bridge over action for rapid loading. Gas escape hole to LHS of receiver. The rear sights have the customary larger aperture for a battle sight and closer distances whereas the ladder is graduated for longer distances up to 1300 yards. Positive, fine click adjustment through the wheel on top of the ladder frame. Entwined “LB” logo stamped into side also visible on safety catch.
Smooth trigger within trigger guard and magazine release catch. Sling swivels attached with period marked canvass web sling, having brass fittings and marked on the inside with broad arrow and date of 1943. The standard military front sight can be adjusted with armourers tools for windage and sits protected on both sides by steel “ears”. In front of sight protection are the lugs to take the standard spike bayonet. The stock is in very good condition with only minor blemishes but a good overall even colour and patina to its surface. There are other markings present on the stock but they are either illegible or with meaning not known. Action smooth and positive having just past UK CIP proof. The bore is obviously used but not worn. Dark grooves, clean lands.
A good example of an Allied front line rifle of the Second World War in good shootable condition ready for some fun on the ranges, collection or re-enactment purposes. This is a 100% matching Canadian Long Branch World War Two Rifle.
