British No 4 Mk II Enfield Rifle….(f 540)……SOLD
Created on December 5th 2015
An almost new out of the box No 4 Mk II Enfield
Fully stocked in standard beech hardwood. The Action and furniture finished in the normal black painted coating and the butt-plate in brass with hatch for cleaning equipment. The cleaning compartment is empty. Chambered in .303 British with a detachable ten round box magazine. Overall the rifle measures 44.1/4″ in length. The round barrel is 25.1/4″ long and the pull length is 13″. Serial number PF334054. This actually places the rifle as part of a contract with the Irish government back in the 1950’s which was cancelled and the balance put into storage until they were sold of in the 1990’s. Consequently as far as service rifles go, this one is a sleeper.
The receiver, the bolt handle, the magazine and the underside of the fore-arm are all clearly marked with the matching serial number. The rifle is as commonly known, “Matching.” The ladder aperture rear sight is marked at the top with a “B” and is graduated from 200 to 1300 yards. There is a clear crows foot stamping at the top of the distance scale.
All the woodwork is in fine condition with a high oil finish. The is a distinct lack of normal “service” bumps and bruises. The finish on the metal parts is equally intact with practically zero wear markings even on the high edges. The finish on the bolt even remains fairly thick and not worn. The cocking piece at the rear of the bolt is the square type with “F/54” marked on the lower portion, indicating the rifles clear lineage.
The bore has the 5-grove barrel which once again looks practically unused. The LHS of the action is engraved as follows; “No 4 MK 2 (F) / 12/54 PF334054” The F stands for Fazakerley. There are other Fazakerley inspectors marks on this No’4 which can be found on the magazine follower, the side of the trigger assembly and the bolt handle. All of these marks bear 1050’s dates.
It is not possible to fault the rifle on condition or appearance. This no 4 also comes with a fitted military sling with brass fittings, which is also in good condition.
A very good number four in fine condition ready to exercise on the range once again.
