3 No’4 .303 Enfields……..SOLD

Three No 4 Enfields.

 

1/ Serial Number FC 20046A . No 4 Mk1  .303

With very close inspection it can be seen that the action is marked: “No4 Mk1 ROF  (F)  7/43”   This means Fazakerley built and date of manufacture as July 1943.  The wrist is marked FC 20046A and under that an “N” and under that a clear oval with a “C” within.  This means lend lease to Canada. The mark is repeated under the fore-end.

Standard ten shot removable magazine also marked with serial number. Bolt arm marked 20046.  Appature (graduated to 1300) and battle sights. Two sling swivels and Brass butt plate. Woodwork very good with fluted hand guard.  A well preserved second world war rifle with a good bore and action.                                                £ SOLD.

2/  Serial Number B9301259. .303  No4 Mk1*  by Stevens Savage of the US.

Of standard specification by Stevens Savage from the USA.  Ten shot detachable magazine, bolt action.  Rear sight is the battle type with two settings of 600 and 300 yards.   The LHS of the action marked with the US ordenance flaming bomb and then “S NO4 MK1*”  the “S” denoting Savage.  The top “slant” on the action marked “U.S.PROPERTY”

Full length stock and hand guard, non fluted.  Brass butt plate with trap for cleaning euipment.  Pressed steel front sight guard. In all respectes this is a standard No4, there is however one minor difference – the bore is a two groove type.  As with the 1903A3 rifle this was not regarded as a disadvantage in combat.  Conditon good.

3/ Serial number 2647A  No 4 Mk1 (F) FTR in .303

This is marked with the overhaul marks applied in 1949 on the action sidewall.  The original markings are easily visible underneath and read as follows;  “No4 Mk1.”   The Fazakerley markings after overhaul read, “No4 MK1 (F) FTR over / 49 2647A”   The butt socket is marked on the RHS “R.O.F./ 41 / 2647A”   There  are other components marked with the Fazakerley “F” like the appature sight graduated to 1300 yards.

The bolt has the matching number on the arm. The detachable ten shot magazine is also marked with the serial number.  The underside of the wrist has some war department inspection marks as does the fore end. Between the front band and the sling swivel band on the underside of the fore end the serial number is impressed into the woodwork.  Older style safety catch.  correct square cocking piece. Nice brass butt plate with trap for cleaning bottle and pull through, tang broard arrow war dept’ stamped.

Excellent bore with no pitting and strong sharp rifling. Mechanically fine.  Woodwork good no splits or defects, only light dings and dents from usage.
