Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle
s/n 119007 for 1898. Caliber .38-56. 26″ Round blued barrel. Overall 45″. Stock length 13.3/8″
One of The Classic Winchesters – the big heavy lever action with .40 caliber weighty barrel.
Standard round blued barrel with good but lightly misted bore. Winchester two line address halfway along on top. The caliber markings 38-56 W.C.F. on top infront of the breech. Both the barrel and the full length tubular magazine under still have a strong percentage of their original blue, with only the edges and the front sight showing any wear. The bore is good with strong Winchester rifling and the lightest of misting.
The action has lost most of its blueing but there are strong traces of case-colour hardening remaining. The action is smooth and still operates correctly when positively racked. The model designation is on the top tang and the serial number and patent dates on the lower tang. The hammer and sliding bolt retain 95% of their original blueing.
The plain American Walnut wood work is very good with minor dents and scratches deposited over time, there are no splits or shakes. The butt plate is the american crescent moon type and there is a steel fore-end cap.
Altogether a good solid Winchester 1886 which has stood the test of time.
