Flintlock Coaching Carbine
A handsome looking Flintlock Carbine of the civilian market with genetic throwbacks hinting at military roots. The carbine measures 37″ exactly in overall length. The round swamped barrel is 21.1/2″ long and the pull length is 13.3/4″ to centre.
The weapon seems to be assembled form various parts and for that reason I am in no way recommending it as an investment but, it would make an attractive wall hanger, and buying this would be better than burning your money or giving it to the bank !
Flintlock by design with a flat curved lock. Border engraved with some hint at a game shooting scene behind the lock and the name “Henry Parker / Warrented” beneath floral scrolls. Flat S-shaped lock, once again florally decorated with flint and leather insert. Roller frizzen and sparks well. Gold touch hole.
The barrel has a long flat to the top with the following legible markings upon it; “HENRY HADLEY CHARING CROSS LONDON” There are strong viewing, proof and barrel makers marks on the obverse to the lock. There is a low half-moon rounded fore-sight blade. Flat blued plate to the back securing the lock-plate. Full length wooden brass tipped ram-rod. With twisted iron screw to remove blockage and clean the bore on the other end of the ram-rod.
The lock functions correctly with a single cocking stage. The rear tang is florally decorated and there is a vacant iron escutcheon on top of the straight wrist. Plain iron fittings with military style high-comb walnut butt-stock and but-plate.
An attractive looking carbine which could have once protected the travelling public from the menaces of the common highwayman. There is a noticeable crack in the forend just below the muzzle which shows sighs of past repair that has now failed. Single piece full length walnut stock.
£ 600. (SOLD)
