WW1 period P17 Rifle by Remington……………SOLD
Created on December 7th 2011
A good example of a P17 Rifle by Remington
Of standard military specification chambered in .30-06. Serial number 611887. Overall length 46.1/2″, Barrel length 26″.
American black walnut full length finger groove stock in good condition, just the normal knocks and dents of military life. Two approx’ 1/2″ chips out of lower LHS wrist are the worst damage. Otherwise no splits or cracks. Two good clear U.S. eagles head over 301 cartouches under the rifle, in front and behind trigger guard. The stock marked on the end inside the nosecap/ bayonet fixing with a 1/2″ high “R” for Remington.
The breech is clearly marked “U.S. / MODEL OF 1917 /REMINGTON /611887”. The sidewall of the action has a clear “flaming bomb” acceptance mark stamped into it, as does the upper side of the bolt handle. The action is in its original finish which is turning a good dark grey/brown colour. The worst loss of finish is on the RHS of the rear sight shield where there are a couple of patches of pitting. The rear sight is marked with an “R” and graduated to 1600 yards. When folded flat it has an aperture battle sight.
There is an even loss of finish on the magazine floor plate all over turning to a lighter grey. The barrel is marked behind the fore sight as follows; “R / flaming bomb / 9-18″ and has retained a good amount of its original blue. Fore sight guarded, mounting block marked “R”. Two sling swivels and an open stacking swivel. Plain steel butt plate with trap for cleaning gear.
Good action and bore with strong rifling. A World War One survivor ready to use again.
£735.
