The Iconic WW2 M1 Carbine by Winchester
The instantly recognisable M1 Carbine used by US forces in all theatres of World War Two, but as a Straight-Pull weapon in .30 cal’ Carbine. A diminuative weapon in the avarage hand, the M1 Carbine forged its place in history effectively against all the Axis powers being the most prolificaly produced weapon of the conflict. Light, easily carried and handled in any tight spot. Eventually almost all branches of US services used them in some way or another. A close quarter weapon with effective knock-down power within the street or jungle arena’s of warfare. Liked by soldiers as it was light to carry and siple to use. This example was never a fully assembled semi-auto but, has been built from scratch, from genuine parts to conform with the UK firearm laws. In effect it is the same as a bolt action but just operates in a slightly different way.
Winchester, who also developed the 30 caliber round was one of many makers who submitted prototypes until it was accepted. Eventually there were nine main contarctors building the same weapon. This one carries the serial number 5719512 at the rear of the action, behind the rear sight. The round receiver is marked over the breech; “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1” . There are no other obvious markings visible.
This M1 measures 36″ exactly in overall length. The barrel is 18″ long and the trigger Pull to centre is 13.1/4″. Detachable 15 round box magazine which double stacks the rounds with two more genuine WW2 mags in the repro’ canvas pouches wrapped around the butt-stock. Safety switch forward of the trigger guard on the LHS as is the magazine release. Plain round blued barrel with no bayonet fixing. Guarded front sight. One quite clever touch is the retainig bar for the rear sling mount which not only secures the sling but actually doubles as an oil bottle – marked US on the underside. The weapon is mounted in a genuine period stock and handguard with a repro’ lightweight canvass sling.
Sliding ramp aperture rear sight graduated from 1 to 3 (100 yards) with a windige adjustment to the LHS. A relatively new piece with a barely run-in bore – pre-owned. Light and easy to use ready for its next trip out.
