Created on November 14th 2011
A Good Standard Issue U.S. Remington 1903-A3 Bolt Action Service Rifle.
An early A3 which has escaped refinishing and is presented as it was originally produced from the factory. Most components are finished in the armoury blue apart from the barrel which is in a dull parkerised finish. The strongly figured American Walnut stock is a two pin type with plain handguard and is in excellent condition. There is a faint circled “P” final proof mark behind the trigger guard.
The breech is marked “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL03-A3 / 3799886” This serial number indicates production in 1943. The barrel is marked behind the front sight with “R.A. / flaming bomb /5-43″ The action which is in the dark blued armoury finish is in excellent condition with the only wear being polishing from the cycling of the bolt, and a small amount of wear on the side guards of the sliding ramp aperture sight. The sight has both windage and elevation adjustment. The bolt is a Remington bolt marked “R” under the handle which is the swept back type. The action is smooth and the bore the correct two groove type in excellent condition with no corrosion and strong rifling.
Many components on the rifle bear the “R” inspection mark from the Remington factory. The one piece trigger guard and magazine floor plate is the correct pressed steel Remington type. All the other components are the pressed steel late war type. The butt plate is the finely chequered Remington produced type, with trap for cleaning compartment. On close inspection a boxed FJA cartouch can be seen next to the crossed cannons cartouche.
The action has the Mauser type flag safety, magazine cut-off and bolt release lever all in the blue.
A high quality Remington ready to take its place in a WW2 collection or just to shoot and enjoy.
