Excellent WW2 US Smith Corona 1903A3 Bolt Action Service Rifle

s/n 4873040.  .30-06 caliber. 24″ round parkerized barrel. Standard mauser type action with bolt safety at the rear.

Parkerized action with adjustable rear appature sights and fixed front sight, with sight cover for protection. Walnut stock with “RA-P” stamped on the left of the wrist. Pressed fittings as per WW2 production and scant grip stock – correct to its era of build – when the United states had to reduce the cost of production and speed up the rate of rifles per week that were coming out of its main armament factories to keep up with the demand put on them by the army. Nevertheless, the rifle did not suffer as a tool for the job, it stayed as accurate as before and as well like by the men that used it. This rifle has an ordinary 4 groove barrel not the 2 groove that followed. (Even the 2 groove did not loose its accuracy for combat kills) The soldiers even prefered the more simple appature sight, as a quick and easy to use sight. An improvement on the much finer built sights their grandfathers and fathers had to use on the earlier rifles.

This is the standard 1903-A3 Smith Corona model rifle manufactred in August of 1943 as the barrel indicates with the markings “SC/ordinance bomb/8-43” behind the front sight. The receiver is marked in the correct way; “US/SMITH-CORONA/MODEL 03-A3” over the serial number. All parts have been parkerized which strongly indicates an arsenal rebuild. Fitting for bayonet under front nose cap.

As this rifle has been arsenal refurbished it is in an extremely good state of repair with a good action and excellent bore. Externally the weapon is in good condition with 99% of its finish. The stock displays little to no handling or scuff marks.  It appears that the rifle has had very little use since the rebuild. A good solid example of the last general issue bolt action service rifle sent into the combat zone by the US Army.

 Steel butt-plate with cleaning kit compartment. An easy rifle to shoot, which almost guides the novice into full bore shooting.
