Rock Island Arsenal 1903 Bolt Action service rifle.
Serial No’ 295601, .30-06 caliber. 24″ round barrel, blued finish & walnut stock. This 1903 is a late ww1 rifle manufactured at the Rock Island Arsenal. The top of the receiver is marked “US./ ROCK ISLAND/ARSENAL./MODEL 1903” over the serial number. The barrel is marked “RIA/ Ordnance bomb/11-17/A” The front sight is a dovetailed blade and the rear sight is graduated to 2700 yards. The stock is the later pattern straight grip stock with two reinforcing bolts, finger curves and hand-guard marked marked with the boxed “SA/SPG” followed by “RA-P” in a rectangle on the left side and two circled “P” on the underside of the wrist. Bayonet lug, three sling swivels and chequered steel butt-plate.
Condition: This rifle was Arsenal rebuilt. About 80% of the refurnished finish remains with thinning at the muzzle and on the barrel bands. The receiver retains most of the finish, in-front of the receiver is a smooth grey patina and original blued finish. The stock is fine overall with scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are are all clear. The action is excellent and the bore is good. The rifle has been British proofed under the muzzle.
