U.S. 1903 Remington Service Rifle………………..(f 625) SOLD

Original Remington 1903 Rifle in .30-06
A nice example of the early WW2 production, just before they really got into redesigning the rifle. Still with the early configuration sights graduated up to 2850yds with hooded front sight.
24″ round blued barrel marked “R.A./flaming bomb/8-42” which talles with the serial number 3183171 for August 1942. The receiver is marked “US/REMINGTON/MODEL 1903/3183171” All the metalwork, action, barrel, bolt, barrel bands, trigger guard etc are correctly finished in the blue and not parkerised which is absolutely correct. This rifle shows only one set of inspectors cartouche on the wrist “FJA” and one final proof mark “P” behind the trigger guard. This all points to an un-molested Remington which has not been back for a refit. As it has its original barrel a check of the bore is important, rather pleasantly the bore is very good with no pitting and strong rifling.
Many of the components show the “R” Remington inspectors marks which once again re-enforces the originality of the weapon. The wood work is in fine condition with very little sign of useage. For a rifle of this age it would have to be assessed as having a 99% perfect stock. There is a short very minor splintering of the fore-end at the join between the upper and lower of the handguard to fore-end joint. It does not interfere with usage or accuracy.
.30-06 caliber, 5 shot internal magazine, “mauser-type” action with safety. End cap with bayonet fitting. Correct Remington chequered steel butt-plate with trap for oiler. This is an excellent example of a 1903 which has stood the test of time and would be a pleasure to own and shoot.
