A Rare WW2  Italian Carcarno in 7.35mm

This is the Italian Model 1938 Mannlicher-Carcano carbine built by Beretta in 1939 and chambered unusually in the Italian 7.35mm cartridge. “Unusually” because the carbine was only produced for one year in this larger calibre as the Italian economy could not stand the extra expence, so they reverted to the 6.5mm.   It carries the matching serial number of “UA7494” on the LHS of the breech.  The same serial number is repeated on the base of the butt-stock on the LHS impressed into the timber.  Above the sling mount is also a caliber reminder to avoid confusion and costly mistakes.  These rifles took a 6 round steel clip.

The carbine is fully stocked in a straight grip beech stock with handguard over the barrel.  Over all, this carbine is 40″ in length.  The round barrel is approx’ 21″ long.  The trigger pull to centre is 13.1/4″.    The breech is marked with the makers name;” BERETTA / GARDONE.”  Adjacent is the production date of “1939 XVII.”  The top of the fixed rear sight is marked with; “CAL. 7.35”  Supple leather sling included.

Simple curved arm bolt originally finished in the white with safety catch to rear in the form of a checked plate.  The fixed magazine protrudes from the underside of the stock under the action and forms part of the trigger guard.  Curved steel butt-plate,  sling swivel mounted on the LHS of the butt-stock.  The nose-cap has a bayonet lug on the underside.  There is a grove cut into the underside of the fore-end for storage of the folding bayonet blade.  Simple dove-tailed fore-sight and a fixed open-V notch rear sight. Apart from the action which has retained a good degree of its original blueing,  most finish to metal work is absent but all is turning a pleasing plumb brown to grey.  Bore is strong but dark in the groves – would benefit from some use and cleaning.  Between the sling mount and the calibre marking on the butt-stock is a roundel cartouche – not possible to decipher.

Mechanically sound.  British Nitro proofs applied.  A definite WW2 collectible from the Axis powers.
