A fully kitted-out M15 type Straight Pull Rifle by The American Spirit Arms Corporation
As many of you will know this is not really my sort of thing but, Needs must when the Devils at the door etc. Took this in as part of a larger deal and the time has come to send it on its merry way – quite like it actually! Especially as it was built in America. It’s correct title is the ASA15. Serial number AS1742B. Built as a straight-pull weapon in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States. Chambered in .223 or 5.56mm (as some would prefer it) The weapon is solidly built and nicely finished, it has many of the features of its half cousin used by many countries around the world today.
Not being completely au-fait with this sort of thing, all I can do is describe this that lies before me. “It’s black and it’s got plastic stuff on it.”
Overall the rifle measures 30.1/2″ to 33.3/4″ depending on having the butt pushed in or extended, by means of a simple rocker-catch underneath the rear end. The barrel is 16″ long including the flash hider. Removable NATO type curved magazine (two of) and one straight shorter box type. Samco G-27 rubber pistol grip, with simple thumb safety above on LHS of action, clearly marked.
Also ,on the LHS of the action is the forward release. Serial number and makers information on the magazine housing on LHS. Mounted towards the rear on the RHS of the action is the forward assist, basically a round button which can ratchet forward the bolt should it need it. Ratchet teeth can be seen on the bolt when forward with the ejection hatch open. Ejection hatch automatically flips open when the straight pull mechanism is pulled to the rear. This pull handle is set on the rear top of the action just under the rear open sights and above the tubular butt. The weapon holds open when the magazine is empty but still in place.
The classic carrying handle on top is U-shaped in section to allow for aiming by way of the fully adjustable open sight system. It is still possible to use the open sights even when the optics are mounted on the handle. The sighting system which has been added to the rifle is of an ACOG type. The optical unit is approximately 6″ in length and mounted on a Picatiny-type rail affording adjustment for eye relief.. It has a basic red-dot sight on top and a Leupold battery tube underneath, at this moment in time it is unclear as to what this battery will power. It could be an illuminated retucule. The object lense is 32mm across with a standard reticule with graduations of elevation should it be needed. The lenses are coated and the optics very good.
The front end of the rifle is set up in the conventional fashion with a hard rubber grip and raised fore-sight ahead. On the underside is a fitment rail for accessories with a “Police” torch and switch mounted there. The rail will also accept the extra fore-end handle which is offered with the rifle. The rifle comes with a black bag with multiple pockets containing all sorts of goodies. So to sum-up, with this rifle comes the following:
- Carry bag – shower-proof,
- Carry strap -black
- Two curved magazines
- One box magazine
- Two “speed loaders”
- Fore-end handle
- Original pistol grip
- Acog -type sight
- Red-dot sight
- Torch & switch
- Alternative cocking handle with knob
- Nato stripper clips
- And a whole lotta fun !
The bore is excellent and the action tight. This rifle is offered as a package which one would have to build up over some time.
