U.S. WW1 Model 17 Remington Rifle………SOLD

A Good Model 17 (P17) U.S. Service Rifle by Remington with an Eddystone 3/18 barrel.
Of regular specification a 5 -shot “Mauser” Bolt action Remington U.S. Service Rifle in caliber .30-06. The serial number “503810” marked on the receiver indicates production just prior to November 1918. The rifle measures 46.3/8″ long overall. It has a round phosphated barrel of 26″ and the trigger pull length is 13.1/2″ .
Fully stocked in American Black Walnut, with full length handguard, the fore end is finger-grooved. There are a couple of excellent armoury repairs to the woodwork which have been expertly carried out in the fore-end. This is the standard U.S. Forces battle rifle with regular open sights. When folded flat there is the normal aperture battle sight and then for further distances there is an integral flip up ladder sight graduated to 1800 yards.
The receiver is marked as follows; ” U.S. / MODEL OF 1917 / REMINGTON / 503810″. The action Side wall is marked with the Flaming bomb of the ordnance inspector as is the bolt handle. The Federal Eagle’s head acceptance mark can be seen on other various parts such as the rear of the action and the “E” marked safety. The barrel is marked just behind the front sight assembly with ” E / Flaming Bomb / 3 – 18″ The E represents manufacture by Eddystone one of the other war time makers of the Model 17. The rifle is equipped with the regular two sling swivels but the stacking hook is A/F. The rifle has a good steel butt-plate fitted with trap for cleaning equipment. There is a good degree of color on the plate with very little drill damage.
Finish on the metal components is a strong dark green parkerizing which shows virtually no wear. Some components show a lighter grey finish and the mid-band is blued, The action is fine and cycles correctly but feels a little new – needs running in! The bore is very strong and clean with no pitting or frosting.
A P17 that has been given a new lease of life and is ready to go again. The rifle has been freshly London Proofed in 2014.
