Swiss Model 1911 Carbine…..SOLD
Created on July 12th 2012
A very clean example of the Swiss M1911 Carbine
Serial number 91222 marked on the breech, bolt and magazine. The number puts manufacture in approximately 1920 by Schmidt-Rubin. Overall length 48.3/8″. Barrel length 23.1/4″. Trigger pull 12.1/2″
Straight Pull action with detachable 6 shot box magazine. This carbine is fitted with the correct carbine sights graduated to 1500 meters on top of the ladder and the side of the ramp.
The breech is marked with a very small Swiss cross, the entwined BP – final proof mark and a broad “M” under a “+” There is no large Swiss cross as on some of the other models. The stock is exceptionally fine with only the smallest insignificant dents from use. The overall appearance is of an unissued rifle. This is not the case on closer inspection as there is some high edge wear on the rifle suggesting some use, but all the same it is clear that this 1911 carbine has been well looked after. The stock was manufactured with the integral semi-pistol grip from new, and not retro-fitted. The timber which is a fine grade walnut really is in very good condition. Both the stock and hand guard are marked with the Swiss cross in a shield shape cartouche. The barrel band is the correct carbine type with side loop for the sling. The butt-stock has the indent and sling bar mounted on the LHS face to accommodate the side mounted sling. The fore-end has 5″ finger grooves on both sides.
Mechanically excellent with bright finished bolt which has Swiss cross inspection marks on all components, the large ring cocking piece, and the locking lugs positioned half way down. The handle is the dark red bakelite type and not chipped or cracked. The bore is a four grove type with no corrosion or pitting, sharp rifling and is bright and clean.
Bolt release on the RHS of the action. Steel butt-plate. The foresight block has the last three numbers of the carbines serial number stamped into the front. The interesting transverse slide for wind-age adjustment of the front sight has been “staked” in the armoury and should not have to be touched again.
These rifles are unerringly accurate and a shere pleasure to shoot. To add to that fact this one is in fine condition with only a small amount of high point edge wear with a little more of a loss where the bayonet would fit. Stacking bar under muzzle which has the distinctive Swiss crowning.
