1805 Patt Naval Officers Sword by John Salter
Of standard specification for Commanders and above with Ivory grip and blue and guilt blade. Made by John Salter, 73 The Strand, London. At this address from 1825-1829. So marked on the ricasso, and on the reverse “John Salter, Sword Cutler to H.R.H The Duke of Sussex”
32″ Pipe-back blade, blue, fading to plum-brown and guilt to half its length. Strong guilt designs, Fouled anchor, Stand of Arms, winged figures and royal cypher and coat of arms.
Brass Stirrup hilt with langetts and fouled anchors. Fine lions head pommel and plain knot. Ivory grip with stip chipping around pommel and one age crack, approx 1″ long on one side. There is a strong hilt of the guilt remaining on the hilt. The scabbard is absent.
