REMINGTON 1903 WW2 U.S. Rifle……SOLD
Created on November 16th 2011
A good U.S. 1903 by Remington
A good early World War Two Remington 1903 U.S. Service rifle in .30-06 caliber.
Serial number 3293272 which correctly puts the rifles production date from Remington information as November 1942. This matches the date behind the foresight which reads thus “R.A. / flaming bomb / 11 – 42. The breech is marked “U.S. / REMINGTON / MODEL 1903 / 3293272”. The finish on the action is parkerised but the bolt body and swept back handle, the magazine cut-of ejector spring are all blued. The round 24″ barrel is parkerised, as is the fore end cap and magazine floor plate.
The trigger guard, steel butt-plate and mid barrel band are finished in the armoury blue. The excellent ladder rear sights are also in the blue with a polished bright face graduated to 2700 yards. These are marked on the RHS with the factory inspectors mark an “R”. Many other components are also thus stamped. The rifle has the two sling swivels and stacking swivel as per usual.
Correct two pin stock with humped handguard. The stock has the final proof circled “P” mark which is only just visible. The stock is in excellent condition with very few marks from usage and a good even finish all over. There is one small armoury stock repair on the LHS adjacent to the breech about 1.1/8″ in length, this does not detract from the overall look of the weapon.
There is a half inch chip missing from the butt, see above photo. Perfect looking four groove bore, which is clean, bright with strong rifling and no pitting or even misting evident at all. The action cycles perfectly. This would be a fine addition to any WW2 rifle collection, and a good shooter to boot!
