Remington 1903-A3 U.S. Service Rifle……………..SOLD

Created on April 3rd 2011

Standard Issue WW2 U.S. Service Rifle in .30-06 caliber.

Grey parkerised finish on all metal components. Marked over the breech, “U.S. /  REMINGTON  /  MODEL 03-A3  / 3529815”  Serial number is correct for date on barrel so there is a strong chance that these components have remained together since they left the Remington factory.

Barrel is stamped behind the fore sight  “R.A.” over “flaming bomb” over date “3-43”  The correct war expedient steel pressed fittings of forend cap and band, mid-strap and sling loop, magazine floor plate and trigger guard; all marked with “R” designating Remington manufacture.

Correct later style appature sight, graduated to 1000 yards, with ramp elevation and “wind-in” windage adjustment. Refined Mauser type action with swept bolt handle and flag safety to rear. To the left rear of the action the magazine cut-off and bolt removal lever. This weapon was heavily coated in grease as a result of that and the parkerised finish there are no signs of corrosion.

The one peice straight walnut stock  and hand guard are in good condition with only minimal scuffs. Rear sling swivle and chequered Remington butt-plate, with trap – empty.  Perfect four grove bore.  Smooth action.

Under the stock just infront of the magazine floor plate are the factory inspectors stamps. Just behind the trigger guard is the final proof mark.  On the left hand side of the wrist are the initials FJA unboxed, correct for Frank James Attwood chief inspector at that time. Next to that are the crossed cannons which are very faint.   A rifle that has not aged since the day it left service and a fine example of the last bolt action rifle issued to regular U.S. troops.

£1080.
