Cased Signature Series Colt Model 1849 Dragoon

Overall in absolutely fabulous condition.  Obviously not an original Colt Dragoon but built on the same machinery by Colt as part of the Signature Series made around 1998 – 2002 .  So called Signature Series because many items within the set are signed with Colts signature and inlaid with gold finish.  Serial number throughout is “8597” marked in all the normal positions Colt did originally, with all components matching. Marked on the RHS of the forward frame; “US/1847”  above the wedge.  Beautifully case coloured frame, hammer and loading apparatus. The engraved cylinder, frame and barrel are splendidly blued with a deep lustrous blacking, no losses or wear, even to high edges. Very slight stop pin wear on outside of cylinder.  Brass trigger guard and front strap.  The lacquer to the trigger guard just darkening. Silver half moon fore-sight; finely grooved hammer acting as rear sight.

The barrel which actually acts upon the bullet, is just short of 9″ in total length.  The majority of which externally is round.  Clear roll-engraved scene on out side of 6 shot cylinder depicting the Ranger and Indian skirmish at Enchanted Rock. Also visible are the two pendants; “Model U.S.M.R.” the serial number “8597” and the lower which reads “Colts Patent”. The top hexagonal section of the barrel is marked; “ADDRESS SAML NEW-YORK CITY”

Fine polished wooden grips with three screw frame – non of the screws show any abuse. Overall, this massive revolver is 16.1/2″ from heel to muzzle. The percussion cylinder is 2.1/2″ long – it is an impressive weapon to try to hold in one hand weighing in at 4.3/4 lbs – unloaded!  This was truly the “Magnum” of its time.  Strong seven-grove rifling – no pitting or corrosion.  The whole revolver in excellent condition,  action, timing perfect with strong lock-up.  The back strap of the revolver is signed in gold “Samuel Colt”.

Presented in a wooden case with a brass plaque on the lid engraved: “COLT WALKER 1847 / The most powerful Revolver in the world / SERIAL NUMBER 8597 / ANDREW J HURLEY.”   The case is lined and compartmentalized (one divider unfixed). Contained within are, one brass powder flask with measuring spout.  Square oil bottle, cap tin by Eley (signed Samuel Colt)  Quantity of lead ball. COLTS PATENT bullet mould – signed and also a signed Colt screwdriver.

An impressive set to keep as a collectible in its own right or a fine unused revolver to take up the dark and mysterious art of percussion revolver shooting.  A Walker, as it would be, condition wise, when it left the Colt shop in New York.  Not something you see every day !
