Interesting early Kriegsmodel K98 by Mauser Brunn
A survivor of the last war, in wonderful condition, having undergone a serious transplant. This K98k is fitted with a brand new Lothar Walther 8mm Mauser barrel. Apart from the fact that it now has to be treated like a new gun and be “shot in” this is a standard mid-war Mauser. The main arm of the German Army throughout the war. A highly effective, simple and strong rifle. Chambered in 7.92mm with a five-shot internal magazine. A standard Mauser action and bolt with bent bolt arm. Flag safety and numbered bolt stem.
This K98k is serial numbered 4840 h upon the LHS of the rounded receiver. Adjacent to a single Nazi waffenamt. The crest of the receiver is marked with the manufactures code “dot” which denotes for Waffen Werke Brunn AG. Below that in the same size font is the manufacture date of 1943. The outer action wall is marked with the normal “Mod.98” The bolt release catch to the rear on the same side has the last two numbers of the serial number “40” on its top. The bolt is finished in the white with the last three numbers; “840” on the stem of the bolt. Other components of the bolt are also marked accordingly.
The round barrel and action are finished in a military black and contrast smartly with the bright steel bolt. Action is very smooth. The trigger guard and magazine floor -plate are, correctly of steel stamped build, being marked with matching numbers and a “135” waffenamt. Milled barrel fittings and bayonet lug. Cleaning rod A/F The front sight is hooded for protection. Standard rear sights, once again being marked to the rifle and graduated from 100 to 2000 meters.
Laminated stock fitted with bolt strip-down disk and flat steel butt plate. The only minor damage to the stock being up around the front side mount for the sling. The butt-stock has the transverse slot for the sling as is usual. Stock in fine condition with faint Waffenamt markings on the RH face of the butt. Possibly an “L” for “Luft” as in Luftwaffe but difficult to read. The rifle is 43.1/4″ long. The round stepped barrel is 23.3/4″ long. The trigger Pull is 13″ to centre. Brand new barrel and bore – ready to shoot in. Freshly proofed 2021.
