No 7 Mk I .22 Bolt Action Trainer………(F 1140) SOLD
Created on November 28th 2020
A Superb almost untouched example of the rare No 7 Mk I Training Rifle
A good example of the purpose built post war No 7 Mk I training rifle. Only about 2500 of these were built originally for the RAF. All the rifles produced were conversions from Mk I rifles. The early ones have a Parker type barrel insert but, later examples were produced with a solid barrel. The bolt resembled that of the No 5 .22 trainer with a long tapering bolt head. All serial numbers are prefixed by the letters “BS” and the rifles were produced in 1948.
This one, although with mixed numbers, is in very good condition, the stocks giving the impression of a rifle unissued. Overall the rifle measures 44.3/4″. The round barrel is 25.1/2″ long and the trigger Pull is 14″ to centre. The outside of the action is marked on the LHS : “No.7 Mk I” The wrist socket is marked with the serial number; “BS1859” However, the bolt arm carries the number “BS2217” and the underside of the magazine is marked “BS0841.” All the correct components, but from different rifles of the same production run. The wooden butt-stock is marked with a solitary “L” just in front of the butt-plate tang, meaning its a long butt. The rifle also has the benefit of the target type adjustable aperture sight; marked as follows; ” ALFD. J PARKER BIRM / REG. DESIGN 868970 / MODEL 8/53″ PROV. PATTS” The windage has its own centering scale with positive adjustment from the side wheel. There are two individual appertures for the sight. (supplied)
The magazine is correctly from a No I Mk III or III* rifle and has had a steel plate riveted into the opening with a recess which has been cut into it to accept a BSA .22 magazine which is still in position. Standard rear sights which when set at 200 yards compensate to correctly place the round at 25 yards. There are many broad arrow acceptance marks on various components of the rifle showing a service life. Solid bolt knob and square cocking piece. Excellent thick brass butt plate with trap for cleaning equipment. Two sling swivels. The rifle comes fitted with a light blue canvass RAF webbing sling. The woodwork is in very good condition being of a light coloured European Walnut and showing little sign of usage. Altogether, this rifle is in very good condition with a clean strong bore. Freshly Birmingham Proofed.
