Swiss K31 Straight-Pull Rifle
It is very unusual to discover a K31 in such wonderful condition, but the reason is simple; it has not suffered the service life. This rifle was specifically produced for the civil market but in exactly the same specifications as the regular service weapon. The major difference with most examples encountered is the fact that many of them are stocked in walnut. This one is just so and has been well cared for.
Serial number on the RHS outer action wall is “P 266850” this falls in a period between the end of 1968/69 and resumed production in 1971. The bright finished bolt bears the same number. It is unfortunate however that the six shot detachable box magazine is numbered to another rifle. The barrel is marked on the first step of the knox-form with the last three digits of the serial number and matches. Also, on the same surface are the final inspection marks, including the mark for Hammerli – the plant where it was completed. Fine condition receiver with excellent Swiss cross shield on receiver ring.
Bright finished (in the white ) short bolt with alloy handle and circular cocking ring. The rear sights are graduated from 100 to 1500 meters. Windage is effected by drifting the front sight in a dovetail which runs diagonally through the front sight base. The fine walnut stock has one interesting feature that does not appear in other military rifles and that is, a pair of staggered finger grooves in the fore-end. If held in the correct fashion the groove allows for the left thumb to rest in it perfectly.
Attractive semi-pistol grip stock with a grain pattern running lengthways through its entire length. Flat steel butt-plate. Side mounted military leather sling with boxed Swiss cross over a single letter “J”. This is an inspectors mark for M.J.Geneve. Stacking hook and bayonet lug on front band. The muzzle crown is the inverted/concave type peculiar to the Schmidt Rubin and is always finished bright.
Excellent 4 – groove RH twist bore with no pitting or corrosion. Smooth, short stroke, straight pull action. Chambered in 7.5mm Swiss. A very attractive rifle.
