Created on September 30th 2009
A Fine example of a pre First World War U.S. 1903 Service rifle
Serial number 149462 for 1909. .30-06 caliber. Twin bolt stock with finger grooves in fore end. Hooded front sight. Correct milled barrel bands, trigger guard, end cap and early smooth steel butt plate with trap. Fully adjustable rear sights graduated to 2850 yds. Serrated trigger. Two sling swivles and stacking swivle.
The patina of the stock is all together pleasing with few serious dents or scratches except on the comb of the stock where there is a small area of gouging just infront of the butt plate tang.
The rifle shows no signs of any refinishing except the fact that the barrel has been replaced in April 1933 as indicated on the top of the barrel just behind the front sight where it is stamped “S.A. / ordenance bomb / 4-33”. All the metal work displays a nice plumb brown patina with minor wear on the high spots.
The action is mechanically fine and the bore good with strong rifling and no pitting. A practicle soloution to shooting and collecting the American service rifle in the U.K. London proofed.
