Harrington & Richardson 12 B Single Take-Down Shotgun…..(S 78)

Created on March 6th 2025

Unusual Take-down 12 Bore single by H & R

The Harrington & Richardson Arms company produced a series of these single barrel exposed hammer singles from 1908 until 1942.  A very simple and therefore reliable design with an opening lever in the upper tang behind the hammer.  Two piece American Walnut stock with classic rounded American semi-pistol grip wrist.  Straight stocked therefore ambidexterous in use.

This is the largest of the twelve guages as far as bore is concerned being 13/1. It has a 2.3/4″ chamber and appears to be cylinder in choke terms.  The fine round blued barrel is 30″ long.  OAL is 45″.  LOP is 14″ to center.  This would be slightly more on the rare side as is actually a “take-down” model; lever on LHS of action.  The serial number “A15317” is stamped into the lower tang.  Finely ribbed black butt-plate – not damaged.

Matching serial number on the side of the lump.  Pattent dates above take-down lever for 1900 and 1901.  Address on LH flat of action reads: “HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO. / WORCESTER. MASS. U.S.A. PAT. FEB.20 & 27 1900”  Overall in very good condition with  very clean bore and sparse pitts.
