COLT Third Model or “Thuer” Deringer Single Shot Pistol

A fair and complete example of this successful pistol with period leather holster.  Known as the Thuer after the designer and gunsmith F. Alexander Thuer who worked with Colt.  Chambered in .41 RF with a 2.1/2″ round barrel.  The top of which is marked “COLT” in italics.  Solid one piece bronze frame that would have been plated when new. On the LHS of the frame is the calibre marking; “41 CAL” in very small lettering.  Blued steel hammer with checkered thumb piece and a trigger which emerges when the piece is cocked.  Two cocking poistions. Mechanically fine. The bore has a seven groove bore but is badly pitted for the first quarted of its length.  The pistol would have left the factory with a blued barrel.

To reload, pull hammer rewards one click (allowing striker to withdraw safely ) On pressing the release catch on the LHS of the barrel, the barrel will swivel upon its axis allowing ejector to expel spent cartridge.  Single action so the pistol has to be manually cocked each time.  Upon investigation it was discovered to have a serial number stamped into the LHS of the frame grip reading;- “38862”  Unfortunately this is one of the few items from the Colt factory to which no records exist.  They made a total of 45,000,  so this  has to be an early example. The last three digits from the serial number match and are to be found on the underside of the barrel.  Brass half moon front sight.  Intact Walnut grips.

The pistol comes with a good period brown leather holster, closing strap a/f.
