A Very Fine Pair of Best English Guns By Harrison & Hussey in 12 Bore.
A fine pair of cased English shotguns by the renown English maker Harrison and Hussey. Completed when the company was at 41 Albemarle Street, London. Serial numbered consequtively 1987 and 1988 Not to be confused with date of manufacture which looks to be approximately 1929-1932.
Beautifully presented in their original oak built leather bound case with lock and two fastening straps. The initials “A.D” centraly placed on the lid. The case is lined in red velvet and the guns held in position in the typical English style. Also included in the case are two plated snap caps marked with makers name, bore size and “London” and spaces for two more. Next to them is a silver plated original oil bottle also marked with the makers name. The lid is fitted with an inner lid opened by way of a leather tab. The correct leather trade lable is on the inside of the lid. The case measures 33.1/2″ by 13.3/4″ by 3.3/4″ and is fitted with brass corners.
The pair are 12 bore Sidelock Ejectors with 29.1/4″ blued barrels. 2.1/2″ Chambers. No 1 gun is choked at 1/4 & 1/2. No 2 is choked at 1/2 & 1/2. Double Triggers, Stock length 14.5/8″ to Centers. (There is room in the case for further extension) Select English Walnut stocks and forends with fine chequering, the forends being numbered to the guns, as with the top levers. Red English Butt pads. The stocks being cast for a right-handed user.
Fine engraving about the actions and locks, the later having inlaid cocking indicators and still showing case-hardening colours in the plates. The side plates show the makers name as does the underside of the action, all surrounded by fine engraving. The stocks have brass coloured inlaid discs with the original owners intials “A.D” as does the lid of the leather case. The sideplates fit beuatifully into the stocks as could be expected with a finely carved terdrop at the rear of each sidelock. “SAFE” is also inlaid into the top strap forward of the safety catch in a gold coloured metal.
Each set of barrels has the makers name marked on top of the rounds so; “HARRISON & HUSSEY Ltd” on the right barrel and “41 ALBEMARLE STREET LONDON” on the left. The top rib being simply inlaid in gold with the gun number 1 or 2. The barrels are “99.9%” free of pitting and undented. The ribs secure. The actions crisp and responsive. These guns have lasted extremely well and are in fine condition
