WW II Soviet Mosin-Nagant Model 91/30 Rifle….(F 776) SOLD

Created on January 30th 2019

 Mosin-Nagant M91/30 Soviet Wartime Rifle

In very good condition with an excellent bore.  A Mosin-Nagant Model 91/30 war-time Soviet rifle.  The rifle is dated 1942 on the round receiver.  This example is the full length Infantry model measuring 48.1/2″ in overall length.  The round black (blued) barrel is 26.1/2″ long.  The Pull length is 13.1/2″ to centre of the curved steel butt-plate.

The M91/30 is chambered in the 7.62 Russian cartridge with a 5-shot internal magazine.  Rugged bolt action with bright finished bolt.  The bolt arm is short and the cocking piece an easy to get hold of disc-shape to aid purchase in freezing conditions.  The rifle is stocked in white Russian birch with the steel slot sling attachments.  This stock is a post war refurb’ unit with the square box on the RHS of the butt with the diagonal line through it.  Also, on the top of the round receiver is the diamond mark meaning it has been in the Ukraine.

The bolt is numbered “2230.” In the usual way, the original serial number, which matches, is on the receiver ring but has been struck out!  Each number and character has an identical, single chisel mark striking it out!  I am not that much of a Mosin specialist to be able to explain that one! I just wonder if human error may have crept in here?  Clearly marked at the top of the receiver ring is the Hammer & Cycle surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves mark of the Soviet Union.  There are various other armoury rework and inspector markings At the rear of the receiver is the triangular arsenal mark for Izhevsk.  This is repeated at the rear of the bolt, the rear sight leaf spring and the barrel bands.

The magazine assembly is marked at the front with the same arrow surrounded by the triangle and the rifles matching serial number.  So basically, this is a fully matching, World War Two period rifle.  Bluing is excellent all over, wear is minimal.  The stock is in excellent condition, with individual stampings, including a re-work square on the butt.  The bore is in very good condition with NO apparent wear to the rifling.  No pitting and no misting.  Strong clean rifling for its full length.  Muzzle is not counterbored.  This should be a very good shooter.  A rare thing a matching Mosin considering the terrible battlefront conditions it may have experienced.
