Mosin-Nagant Rifle M1891/30g…………SOLD
Created on December 7th 2012
The Russian Modified 1891 Rifle
Serial number 9935 marked on the bolt and the breech. 7.62R caliber with 5 shot internal magazine. Overall length 48.1/2″. Barrel length 28.3/4″.
Full length woodwork, straight stocked with hand guard over barrel. This rifle displays the first modifications the Soviets carried out on their trusty 1891 Mosin-Nagant rifle. The barrel is slightly shorter than the original rifle, the breech is rounded – to aid manufacture and the sights have been changed to meters with a tangent type rear sight and a protected, adjustable front post type fore-sight. Apart from those features these rifles were still very close to the original 1891 model.
The breech has numerous markings on it, the original markings being the date of 1941 and the serial number, along with the triangular arsenal mark of the Ivhevsk Arsenal. At the top of the breech there is a clear hammer and cycle. It also has the boxed “SA” Finish army mark on the lhs of the breech, so this one has changed hands at least once, and therefor it is reasonable to guess that this rifle has seen action.
There is one last tell-tale sign that this rifle has been in for refurbishment, in that the muzzle has been back-bored to take out wear produced by cleaning cords on the crown at the muzzle. Action mechanically fine and bore strong but dark. Woodwork in good condition and no signs of refinishing. Wear to the action etc is exactly as expected on a rifle of the this age and history.
