Hungarian M44 Mosin Nagant with sprung Cruciform Bayonet
A superb compact Mosin Nagant carbine that is guaranteed to wake you up in the mornings. The bark from this rifle is legendary and the muzzle flash is second to none in the league of singed eyebrows! This is a perfect example of post war Soviet block satellite states that carried on making the tried and tested war horse for many years after the war despite the rise of the semi-autos. Still in the same calibre, with the same short arm bolt system and still brandishing the slightly archaic cruciform bayonet. However the markings that identify the land from where it was forged are the large circled “02” on the side of the butt and the same “02” on the receiver. This is Hungary – one of the best makers. To narrow it down further the circled “B” next to the aforementioned “02” denotes Budapest.
The carbine is a nominal 40″ long but with bayonet extended, poking would become apparent at 52″. The well designed sprung bayonet catch allows the spikey bit to be as easily produced as stored with the flick of the wrist. (as it were)
A solid Beechwood stock with straight wrist and finger grooved fore-end has the cross-slot metal edged sling attachment points. A single cross bolt reinforces the stock. Two sprung steel barrel bands retained by spring clips and a cleaning rod stored under the barrel are all in position. The serial number is “AG6448” and appears on all relevant parts correctly and undisturbed. Hooded single post front sight with adjustable rear tangent sight only graduated up to 1000 meters.
Rounded action and barrel- all blued with the normal amount of losses to indicate a life in the military. Single stack 5 round magazine – can be clip fed ( also numbered to the weapon) The bolt with classically short bolt arm is also numbered to the carbine. The barrel shank is marked as follows; ” O2 / 1952 / Star over hammer and cycle / AG 6448″ All parts match there are no parts from anywhere else. This is a true Eastern Block Soviet era Hungarian carbine. Bore very good. Clean with strong rifling. CIP UK Proofed 2023.
