Fine M39 Finnish Rifle with PE Scope
An extremely high grade example of the excellent M39 Finish Nagant fitted with the Soviet PE scope. Standard specification Finnish M39 Nagant built by VKT (Tikka) The rifle has the original hexagonal receiver – military blued and the first section of the heavy barrel is round. The rounded section is marked firstly with the “boxed SA mark / boxed VKT / D / 74348 / 1944.” The first stage of the sight mounting system is affixed to the hex’ receiver by six slotted round head screws. The waist-line of the stock has been relieved to accommodate the mount.
The rifle measures a nominal 47″ in overall length. The round blued barrel is 27″ long and the trigger pull is 13.3/4″ to centre. By the presence of the barrel markings, it is the case that the barrel is the original 1944 fitment. The white finished bolt has the extended turned-down bolt handle with matching number applied to the bolt rib. Fitted with the improved Finnish sights and adjustable front sight, within protective ears. The work undertaken to turn this already accurate rifle into a “Sniper ” version was undertaken by a highly respected company based in the UK; Thames Valley Guns. Every detail required to tune this weapon into a slick accurate shooting machine has been undertaken by the same, with the knowledge of a professional armourer to back it up. A total of 15 accurizing operations have been carried out on the rifle, including bedding the barrel, polishing the trigger and in-depth servicing. The bolt positively glides as if on roller bearings, its uncanny for a Nagant! All receipts and bills are available to view and will pass with the rifle.
Overall condition is exceptional, bluing is strong and nothing stands out as over-new or heavily refinished. The woodwork is the best I have seen on an M39; it has a smooth overall finish – undented or scratched. The rifle is fitted with all the standard fittings, cleaning rod, sling swivel and a good later leather Finnish sling. The stock has early (probably) original production minor repairs to the wood, as the Finns appreciated the shortcomings of the chosen timber they did things like reinforced with splices, drilled and plugged any knots. Most noticeably they developed a spliced stock which finger-joined in the centre of the rifle. This acted against the stress and strains forced upon it by the extreme weather conditions and temperatures. All in all the stock is highly pleasing to handle and perfectly finished.
The scope is the standard PE model on a reproduction mount. The scope is dated 1937 and carries the serial number “A26450”. It has a standard three post reticule and the optics are good. On the rear optical outer is a simple Hammer & Cycle emblem.
The bore is in excellent condition, very clean with good rifling and no pitting or misting.
This is an exceptional rifle and will be a pleasure and something quite exceptional to own, let alone, appear on the firing point with! An exceptional piece of equipment.
